Where Mountain Heritage Meets Modern Serenity

Sanctum Sunnyside is a legacy mountain residence rooted in the storied terrain of Telluride—where rugged mining history meets refined alpine living. Conceived in collaboration with Tommy Hein, R&L Design Co. interprets this duality through an interior language that is both grounded and elevated. Drawing from the industrial character of early boom-town structures, the home embraces textural, honest materials—hand-finished wood, patinated metals, supple leather, and woven textiles—layered in an open, minimalist aesthetic.

The design is intentionally quiet: neutral, soft, and organic, allowing the surrounding landscape to remain the focal point. Stone surfaces echo the mountains; warm timber tones reflect the forest; and tactile elements invite touch, presence, and pause. This is a modern alpine retreat shaped by hygge sensibilities—spaces that encourage stillness, connection, and comfort without excess.

R&L Design Co., founded by Principal Designer Margaret Selzer, approaches Sanctum Sunnyside as more than a residence. It is an experiential environment—crafted for movement, rest, and play. Each room is attuned to how life unfolds in the mountains: mornings filled with light, evenings gathered in warmth, and moments of solitude that restore.

More than an escape, this is design devoted to the art of respite—where beauty is not just seen, but felt.
